A day with the planning team in Beverwijk
By six in the morning the first trucks are already lined up. We spent a day with the planners who keep hundreds of daily trips on track.

It is a quarter to six when the first planner switches on the lights in the Beverwijk planning office. The screens show today's trips: bulk to Germany, steel to the Ruhr, containers to and from the terminal.
The first hours
Between six and eight it is all about getting started. Drivers check in, loading addresses are confirmed and the first disruptions arrive: a customer opening late, a traffic jam on the A9. The planners shuffle, call and shuffle again.
Afternoon
After lunch attention shifts to tomorrow. Customer orders are combined into efficient round trips, the electric trucks get the regional runs and rail takes the long hauls to Poland. Every trip that moves from road to rail is celebrated with a small gesture.
Why they do it
"No two days are the same," says one of the planners. "You spend the whole day solving a puzzle with real people and real freight. When everything is in place by five, that feels good."
